From textile faculty 
to textile academy

Milestones in the Academy’s record:

1918 - foundation of the Ivanovo-Voznesensk Polytechnical Institute (IvPI), comprising Spinning and Weaving Faculty.

1930 - gemmation of Spinning and Weaving Faculty from IvPI and its reorganization into the Ivanovo Textile Institute (IvTI).

1937 - completion of construction of the main building of the institute, designed by I.A. Fomin, a member of the Academy of Architecture.

1938 - launching of the post-graduate programme.

1940 - the population of enrolled students exceeded 1000.

1953 - the first group of foreign students are awarded graduation certificates.

1957 - the institute starts publication of the All-Union scientific periodical “Proceedings of Higher Educational Establishments. Technology of Textile Industry”.

1960 - the institute is conferred an honour to be named after M.V. Frunze.

1971 - formation of the Academic Board for Dissertation Defense.

1978 - opening of the Museum of Glory in Labour and Battle.

1978 - the institute is awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour.

1982 - commissioning of a new building for study and laboratory work.

1994 - the institute is granted status of the Ivanovo State Textile Academy (IGTA).
